What is Bad About Good Friday By Femi Falade

What is Bad About Good Friday

By Femi Falade

I have noticed that people use an event that happens in a particular day to judge the day. For example, when a husband that works in a shipping company gets home in the night and the wife asked him, dear, how was the day. Probably because one of the ships sank and it held them ransom for the day, the reply of course would be, my dear the day is bad.

As correct as that seem, God in the beginning created all days as good. In genesis chapter one verse thirty-one, God’s word told us that God saw everything, (the days are not exempted) that they were very Good.

What God sees as good, men see as too good.

What God calls good, men call it best. Imagine the creator Himself sees the days and night good. Where do we then see a bad day? We know that Days speak and night reveals knowledge, (See Ps. 19:2). What the day speaks therefore, determines what the days is.

What a day speaks is what a day is.

Jesus told us that sufficient for each day is its own trouble, (See Matt. 6:34). When did trouble enter into the day God created good? Paul the Apostle also told us of the need to redeem the times (in the day), for the days are evil, (See Eph. 5:16). The days became bad when men sin. Not only the day, everything become bad. Including what we see to be good.

I know we have theological views of Good Friday or Holy Friday or Great Friday or Black Friday or Easter Friday as it were. I want to show you the sympathetic aspect of what we call good. Good Friday by explanation, is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover.

Also we were made to understand that the etymology of the term "good" simply mean pious or holy. In fact, German-speaking countries, referred to it as Karfreitag (Kar from Old High German kara‚ "bewail", "grieve"‚ "mourn", Freitag for "Friday"), meaning Mourning Friday. The Kar prefix is a cognate of the English word "care" in the sense of cares and woes; it meant mourning. All these show in their selves that nothing is good about the Friday.

What we called Good Friday was good because there was a reconciliation project taking place. There was an exchange of sin for righteousness. There was a replacement of enmity with friendship between God and man. It is a Friday, Jesus can never forget in life. I cannot forget too because that was when my sins were taken away. That was the events that gave me the forgiveness of sin. The Friday became good for men. It became bad and black for Jesus our Lord.

What is bad about the Friday is simple. That was the day the cord of unity was broken for the first and the last time in the spiritual house of the trinity.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Mark 15:34

Sad enough, the Father had to turn His eyes against His son because He was carrying our sins. He cried for the first time and the father could not respond to Him. This was the worst thing that ever happens to God and to Jesus our Lord. It was a bad day for Him. All the paints He went through cannot be measure in the light of this denial.

Again the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Father, the Spirit of Christ Himself had to also leave Him. God turned against His Jesus and the Holy Spirit also left Him.

…….and he bowed his head, and gave up His Spirit. John 19:30

He gave up the Holy Spirit? What? The psalmist has once sung a song of pains in His heart. He knew how deadly it is to miss Him, the Holy Ghost:
Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy Spirit from me. Ps. 51:10-11

It is simply saying, it is dangerous when you take your Holy Spirit away from me. It is deadly. The Holy Spirit departed from Him. He was emptied. He was bearing the burden of our sins all alone. Lord Jesus paid the price. Endured the pains and shame and of His fullness, we receive grace for Grace, (Heb. 12:2, John 1:16).

What is bad about the Good Friday also include the judgments of those who refuse to accept that the Friday is good. They see it as bad. They have no interest. We told them about what Jesus went through for them. They say it is not important. They called it super story. They make fun of it and mock us. Just like the days of Noah or like the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Good Friday will sounds to them more good on that day of rapture and it shall sound bad generally to others.

Shall we sit here until these souls perish? We need to do something doable to see the souls that are lost recovered. Good Friday is not bad. It is good. It is a news of love and forgiveness. Jesus still saves.

Happy Easter to You!
