ALTAR CALLING (Extracted from the Book "LAYING HOLD ON DIVINE TREASURES")
by Femi A. Falade
How do you feel when you left your phone at home and went on a three day journey, and at your return you met 70 missed calls notifications.Of course, with much worries and anxiety, you say oh my God! my manager has called, My husband or wife has called, My friend has called. Oh, I missed my daughters call. And you keep counting those who needs your attention or something from you at the space of time you were away. In all those periods, you offend many people, you feel you have hurt some by such unplanned and uncontrollable circumstance and you just feel too sorry for yourself.
How sad is it then to miss your altar call for once? One altar call missed is more dangerous than 120 supper missed calls or call from your wicked boss.
I wish your altar call will ring with such ring tone of Marvin Sapps song:
He's calling me deeper, deeper, deeper...
He's calling better, better, better...
He's calling wiser, wiser, wiser...
He's calling me stronger, stronger, stronger…
Altar in its 'dictionary' meaning means; a raised structure or place on which sacrifices are offered or incense is burned in worship.
It is a physical place in the Old Testament but a spiritual space in us in this dispensation.
Altar call is not just a call to be saved. It is not the call we respond to just to be saved when we preach, neither is it a call to ministry or to be co-laborer in the house-hold of God, in the real fact, it is a pulpit call. The call that brought us back to the altar of God is the altar call.
The altar is a place of communion with God, a place where we draw from the well of the Spirit, a place where we lay hold on eternal substance. It is prepared in our lives. We are not only made the temple of God, we also have an altar where we offer our living sacrifice to God. This altar makes call for sacrifices every time. But most time we are off, we are sleeping or left our absence present.
WHEN AND WHY ALTAR CALLS
Altar don't make false alarm and don't beep for test.
1. It calls us into fellowship.
2. It calls us into studying Gods word and to pray.
3. It calls us to worship and intercedes.
4. It calls us to meditate and to hear the voice of our Father.
Certain calls from the altar like on our phones too are urgent. They are made to pass urgent informations, quick messages and to address urgent matters.
If we keep missing out, this could make our altar a neglected place.
HOW ALTAR CALLS
Since our altar is inward, it is mobile and can call anytime. We have records of men such as Apostle Joseph Ayobabalola, who was at the point of responding to his supper call (about to eat) when his altar call came. We were told at one time, that this humble man prayed for three days at the point of eating because the altar called him and he has to respond. The difference is that, these men are sensitive to time, sign and symbols. They understood the way their altar calls and they know how to respond. These men are examples of people who knew the purpose and the importance of their altar.
How do we receive an altar call to wait on the Lord?
Many people will say, I just have a signal know or I just saw a sign now, and they will begin to pray, it can be as simple as that. You might had a voice of the spirit saying go and pray or a picture of an event that need you to pray about. It might be an hugely situation that just surface around the pace you are or a cloud jut mixed with air and trees shouted and the burden to respond to your altar came.
To be continued...
