ONE OF THE REASONS WHY CHRISTIANS ARE POOR

People’s Orientation Opposite Riches is known as POOR.

CHRISTIANS poverty is one of the most tragedies that can ever happen to anybody. This is simply because, the image we portray is the image of Christ and that is what people see us to be. When a Christian is poor, he is only saying that, He serves a poor God.

Why do you think God is wicked? Why do you agree with those who believe erroneously that Wealth is for certain people, and not for them? Why should you join the congregation of people who see rich believers as “sinners in their embryos?” Why do you criticize those who have some riches as if they are no longer born-again? All these, are signs of an immature Christian.

The matter here is not about your locality or your background. Let me remind you that, a Christian is God’s special and peculiar person. You are no longer connected to your family by blood but directly connected to Jesus, the family of heaven; Jesus, in whom every family on earth is named after. As a result, your environment or background is not what is important. 

A philanthropist once said that:

"Where you live should not determine whether you live, or whether you die."

We shall see that, a Christian should not be poor because his fore-fathers were poor.

I have by God’s leading selected the most common reasons that account for the poor state of Christians though may be unknown by many people. These reasons are not excuses but what we need to carefully deal with and if you are a minister, what you need to caution our congregation against lest poverty floods your church like never before. 

WRONG PERCEPTION 

Pastor Sam Adeyemi once said, something must grow up on the inside of you before it can grow on the outside. The way you see yourself is the way you will live. Many Christians have poor perception about themselves. You can be poor by the virtue of what obtains around you; nevertheless, your mentality must not be poor. I was sharing with a son in the Lord one day and I told him. Don’t marry a poor lady. He looked at me so I quickly explain further what am trying to say. I told him a poor lady is known by her perception. No ideas, no prospects, no productive thinking. 

Prov. 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

The way you think is the way you are and that is exactly who you are going to become. In fact that is how people will see you. We must know for sure that, this problem is rampant in Christendom. 

Many people have concluded that the sign of a good Christian is poverty or being average. Once they see someone who seems to have more than that, he has compromised his faith. I wish we have the kind of perspective God has.

Before He created Adam and Eve He prepared a whole Garden of Eden for them. When the prodigal son came back home, the father threw a party. When the bible describes the New Jerusalem in the book of revelation, there were all manner of gold, silver, stones, diamonds, and emeralds and so on.
